What does TDLR require for a Texas electrician license renewal?
4 hours per renewal
TDLR rule 16 TAC §73.25(b): four hours of department-approved continuing education for each license renewal. This course is the full four hours.
Three required subjects
Every approved course covers the National Electrical Code as adopted for Texas, Texas electrician law and rules, and NFPA 70E electrical safety. All three are in this course.
Finish during your license term
The CE must be completed within the term of the license you are renewing (§73.25(d)). Credit for the same course number counts once; the provider reports completions to TDLR.
Apprentices have two paths
An apprentice renews with the 4-hour course or with enrollment in a TDLR-registered apprenticeship training program (§73.25(c)). Not sure which applies? Run the free renewal check.

Texas electrician CE questions, answered
Does this count for an apprentice electrician renewal?
Yes. Apprentice electricians renewing a Texas license need 4 hours of TDLR-approved continuing education, and this course provides all 4. If you are in a TDLR-registered apprenticeship program, your program training may count instead; see the note above.
Is this course approved by TDLR?
Yes. CortovaVolt TX is TDLR Course #33375, offered by TDLR continuing education provider #2563. Check the provider on TDLR's site; the screenshot above is that record.
I am a journeyman or master. Same course?
Yes. Journeyman and master electricians renew with the same four hours. Texas electrician CE page.
Is there a final exam or test?
No test required. Short, ungraded quick checks along the way keep you sharp; the four hours of seat time are the requirement, not a score.
How fast do I get my certificate and my hours?
Your certificate is available instantly when you finish. We report your completed course hours to TDLR within one business day. One business day is not a same-day promise; keep your certificate and confirm the credit in your TDLR record.
What if it is not for me?
Request a refund for any reason within 30 days of purchase and before your completion has been reported to TDLR. Email help@cortova.net from your purchase address. Starting the course does not reduce the refund.
Does finishing the course renew my license?
No. Course completion and our report to TDLR satisfy the CE requirement. You still renew the license itself with TDLR and pay any state fee.
Will the price change?
Yes. The price is $24.99 now. On March 1, 2027, it goes to $34.99.
